Background of Organizing the Committee

To implement the INES function of the IAEA, Korea announced regulations for nuclear event reporting (NSSC Notification, (No.92-18)) on Dec. 1, 1992. Licensees report a provisional event scale evaluation to the government and to KINS, and KINS performs the final evaluation through a Nuclear Event Evaluation Committee. Since the first committee meeting was held on July 2, 1993, The scale of events has been classified in accordance with INES every quarter. The final event scale is made available to the public through the websites of NSSC and KINS.

Nuclear Event Scale Evaluation Committee

The committee evaluates the scale of events that have occurred in nuclear power plants, and a subcommittee for radiation event scale evaluation is affiliated to it.

The committee consists of a chairman and about 20 committee members. The term of membership is 2 years and the President of NSSC appoints the committee members. A committee meeting is held every quarter and where required. The final scale decided in the committee is made available to the public through the websites of NSSC and KINS.
